Without assurances of appropriate privacy, users of the Net will not communicate and participate in a meaningful manner.
The right to privacy includes at least three forms:
I personally couldn't agree more with what was said on the CPSR web site. Our privacy on the Internet is very important. No one should be able to arbitrarilly collect information about people without their knowledge. Web sites should post thier terms of service in an easily accessible place on their site. Users should not have to search for those terms. What currently goes on on the Internet shouldn't be tolerated by anyone. People of course still have a right to make money, but they shouldn't do so by selling the personal information to third parties.
